HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant has signed an order setting the date forĀ Hattiesburg’s special election for mayor.

The election will take place on September 24.

This comes after Judge William Coleman ordered a new election last week after a mistrial over the contested mayor’s race. Former city council member Dave Ware brought on the challenge after losing to incumbent Mayor Johnny DuPree during the June 4 election.

Anyone who has not registered to vote and wants to cast a ballot, must be registered by August 26.

All candidates who were on the June 4 ballot will also be on the new ballot unless they formally withdraw from the special election.
